Jon Hellevig

Managing Partner

Jon Hellevig has worked with Russian law immediately since the start of market reforms in early 1990's. Having gained 5 years' experience as lawyer and CFO for American-Russian joint venture and subsequently worked as lawyer and CFO for Armstrong World Industries (Central and East Europe). Hellevig was the founding partner of what is now Hellevig, Klein & Usov.

Hellevig specializes in investment consulting, tax and corporate law and human resources (including labor law). He has written Avenir Guide to Russian Taxes (2002, 2003, English, Russian); Avenir Guide to Labor Laws (2002, 2003, Russian and English editions in 2002 and 2003); Expressions and Interpretations, a book on the philosophy of law and the development of Russian legal practices; and several other books, articles and white papers. He regularly lectures at international seminars on these topics. In view of his long experience in Russian business and Russian culture, Hellevig also manages the headhunting activities of Awara Group, Awara Direct Search.

Before entering the Russian market Hellevig gained experience at the Central Bank of Finland; the successor bank of present day Nordea; and the private bank which is now called Mandatum –having been a co-founder of the latter. Hellevig has a University degree in Law from the University of Helsinki, Finland (1985). In 1998 he acquired an MBA with the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et des Chaussees and University of Bristol Graduate School of International Business with KPMG European Training Center, 1998

Jon Hellevig is multi-lingual with respect to the following 4 languages: English, Russian, Swedish (native) and Finnish (native); and has knowledge of Spanish, French and German, without being conversational in the last three.




Artem Usov

Partner

Artem Usov joined the predecessor of Hellevig, Klein & Usov in 2002 and is presently a general corporate lawyer with specialties in: Taxation, Corporate Governance, Labor, Immigration, Off-shore Company Structures & Incorporations (Russian and abroad). One of Usov's areas of expertise is helping Fortune 500 companies find the best practice approach to establishing the right corporate structure and the optimal off-shore structures in the applicable situation. In order to serve clients better, Usov keeps abreast of all aspects of the Russian Tax Code and follows closely all amendments and proposed amendments in order to keep clients up to date.

Artem is the co-author of Avenir Guide to Russian Taxes and Avenir Guide to Russian Labor Law. He is also an author of several legal topic articles. Artem is a graduate from the Russian Tax Academy.

Usov is fluent in English in addition to his native Russian.




Anton Kabakov

Partner

Kabakov advises Russian and foreign clients on a wide range of issues of corporate, commercial and contract law, and also assists clients at all stages of transactions (legal analysis, structuring, and completion). Kabakov also has extensive experience advising on taxation, tax calculation and payment, as well as refund of overpaid taxes and VAT. His legal acumen also touches upon issues of labor law, including the structuring of complex relationships with employees at Russian subdivisions and the representation of interests in legal disputes with employees and in collective negotiations.
On numerous occasions, Kabakov has successfully represented clients' interests in commercial and tax disputes in courts, as well as in government institutions in case of administrative process. Recently, he has been providing legal support to major companies to optimize the corporate restructuring and activities of their subsidiaries in Russia.
Kabakov graduated from St Petersburg State University with distinction. Anton is fluent in English.




Evgeny Isaev

Partner

Evgeny Isaev joined Hellevig, Klein & Usov in 2005 as an attorney specializing in corporate law. Since that time, he has expanded his practice to include projects in labor, tax and migration law. In cooperation with auditors, he has also been involved in due diligence reviews conducted in preparation for mergers and acquisitions.

Mr. Isaev has extensive experience in interim management of Russian subsidiaries of major international corporations, acting as the general director of the firms when a trusted person has been needed for interim management or special control. Mr. Isaev also serves as general director of the management company of Awara Group, which offers interim directorship services.

Mr. Isaev has amassed extensive experience in dealing with clients from countries of North America and Europe in various sectors of the economy, as well as from countries of Asia. He has coordinated the work of a large international team, with international assignments, in addition to his practice in Moscow and Russia, covering New York, Chicago, London, Stockholm, Nicosia, Kiev, and Helsinki.

In addition to his native Russian, Mr. Isaev is fluent in English.
