Daniel Klein
Co-Founder & St Petersburg – Partner-in-charge, Hellevig, Klein & Usov
Prior to the merger of Avernir Law Partners and Mr Klein’s practice, Mr Klein practiced in the Moscow office of the American/Russian law firm Marks & Sokolov. Daniel is an expert in legal issues relating to Western companies doing business in Russia and Europe. He has experience as outside legal counsel as well as internally at the corporate legal level. Mr. Klein has spearheaded the legal and business aspects of numerous company start-ups, Venture Capital/private equity investments, and geographic expansion of companies through acquisition and organic growth. Daniel has extensive experience in the areas of real estate, mortgages, financial leasing, company structures, and contract law. He is also a seasoned Intellectual Property Attorney, experienced in litigating and prosecuting Patents, Trademarks & Copyright. One of his areas of expertise is policing counterfeit goods.
Other law firm experience includes his practicing at Paris-based Bouju Derambure Bugnon and New York-based Pennie & Edmonds. In addition, Daniel also worked for several corporations in business and legal capacities, including subsidiaries of Seimens (Austria & Russia) and Schlumberger (France). Daniel’s first Russian business experience was in 1993 when he co-founded a start-up based upon a new medical devices technology. He has been very active in Russia ever since and currently resides in Moscow.
Daniel holds a Juris Doctorate (New York Law School, 1987), an MBA (London Business School, 1993) and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degrees (Washington University in St. Louis, 1984). He is admitted to the State bars of New York, Massachusetts, and Washington, DC. and is a licensed United States Patent & Trademark Attorney. Daniel is also a citizen of Canada. He speaks English (as his mother tongue), French, Russian & Spanish.
