Kauppalehti, a daily Finnish business magazine, features an article on Avenir Group
Avenir and Hedman to open offices in Ekaterinburg
Legal and financial administration service providers are opening their offices in Ural following the lead of Finnish businesses. Avenir Group and Hedman are starting their operations in Ekaterinburg. Avenir has also offices in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Tver. The company’s service concept in Ekaterinburg includes legal support, audit, accounting and recruitment. The partner in charge of the company’s Ekaterinburg operation, Alexander Makarov, says that it is fairly easy for a foreign company to recruit well-trained employees in the city, as the universities are among the best ones in Russia and English is widely spoken. In the Soviet era Ekaterinburg was a closed city, where the best brains of the country were working. Even now, the education level is higher than the average.
According to Makarov, the way companies are operating on the Russian market has significantly improved since the beginning of the 21st century. The new tax legislation is one of the most developed in the world and trust towards the justice system of the country as a whole has increased. The problems companies might have are not so much related to legislative issues, but arise out of bureaucracy and ability of government officials to blackmail companies, e.g. on the basis of fake fire and health inspections. When the current crisis passes, the restructuring in Ural will begin and the region will transform from being dominated by heavy industry to modern service society. Western companies are in key position to build the infrastructure of the new system, Makarov believes.
